Prices
How pricing works
A lot is priced on what's in it, the access at the saleroom and at home, the drive and the date. Antique furniture is on our item list, so many lots are priced straight away.
Add what you're moving
Pick each item from the list. Not on the list? Describe it with its size and weight.
Add both addresses
Where we collect from and where it's going, with the floor, any lift and where the van can park.
See your fixed price
The price covers the van, the carry, the drive and the date. No hourly meter, nothing added on the day.
A single item
from £100
Our lowest published single-item price: a short local drive, near the door at both ends, on a Monday to Thursday in the middle of the month. Prices include VAT.
A job lot of several pieces asks you to measure each one. Fragile or specialist pieces go to our team, who confirm a fixed price before you book.
See your price in minutes. The earliest you can book is the next day.
Every price is on our price list. Road charges such as the Congestion Charge show as their own line in the quote, never added afterwards.
What we collect from auction houses
Choose Auction house as the place we collect from, and the item list shows the pieces salerooms sell.
Antique furniture
Bureaus, writing desks, chests of drawers, blanket boxes and trunks.
Glass cabinets
Display cabinets and vitrines, wrapped and carried upright.
Chaise longues and antique sofas
Upholstered antiques, wrapped in blankets for the journey.
Job lots
Several pieces in one lot. Measure each one and the quote works out the price.
Modern furniture and appliances
Returns and clearance lots, priced as the items they are.
Specialist pieces
Longcase clocks, large gilt mirrors, large paintings, marble tops and stoneware go to our team first.
Collection windows are short and the earliest you can book is the next day, so book as soon as you've paid for the lot.
How an auction collection works
The saleroom releases a lot once it's paid for. We need the details it will ask the driver for.
Pay for the lot
Pay the auction house's invoice, including its fees, and check the collection window and opening hours.
Start a quote
Choose Auction house as the place we collect from, add each piece and both addresses.
Add the lot details
The lot number, the saleroom's phone number and the last day of the collection window. Check the saleroom will release to someone collecting for you.
We collect and deliver
The driver collects inside the window, wraps the piece and delivers on the date you book. Nothing is held overnight.
Before you book
The release note
Some salerooms give a release note or collection code once you've paid. Have it ready to add when you book.
Loading at the saleroom
Check where vans load and whether the saleroom helps bring lots out. Tell us when you book.
Everything paid for
We collect goods you've bought and paid for. Sort out anything still to pay with the seller first.
A contact on the day
Add a name and phone number for the person releasing the goods. The driver calls them if anything is unclear.
Your route in
Check the turns on your stairs, the size of any lift and the width of your hallway. Long boxes and big sofas need room to turn.
Parking at both ends
Choose where the van can stop lawfully. If a permit or paid bay is needed, tell us who's arranging it.
Questions and answers
How much does it cost?
Single items start from £100: a short local drive, near the door at both ends, on a Monday to Thursday in the middle of the month. Prices include VAT. Bigger pieces, several lots, stairs at home and a longer drive add time, all inside the fixed price you see before you book.
Can you collect inside a short collection window?
The earliest you can book is the next day. Book as soon as you've paid, and choose a date inside the window. If the window is too tight, call us before you book.
What do you need from the auction house?
The lot number, the saleroom's phone number, the collection window and any release note or code. Check first that the saleroom releases lots to someone collecting for you.
Can you collect several lots at once?
Yes, from the same saleroom in one job. Add every piece. Lots from two salerooms are checked by our team before a fixed price is confirmed.
Do you move clocks, mirrors and paintings?
Longcase clocks, large gilt mirrors, large paintings, marble-topped furniture and stoneware go to our team, who confirm a fixed price before you book.
Are you part of an auction house or auction website?
No. Movesmith is independent and isn't affiliated with these retailers. You win and pay for the lot, and we collect it and deliver it to you.
What if the goods aren't ready or don't match when you arrive?
The driver follows the collection details you gave. They don't leave with something different or incomplete without a decision from Movesmith. They can't change the price or take cash. If the job needs to change, we send you a fixed proposal, and nothing extra happens unless you approve it.
Who is responsible if something is damaged?
Movesmith accepts liability for your goods while we move them, under the terms shown before you book. Every move includes Movesmith Cover up to £10,000 — with increased cover up to £50,000 available when you declare a higher value.
