Student removal prices in London
There is no flat per-room rate: a room is priced on the items you list, so a suitcase, a few boxes and a desk cost less than a room with a bed and a wardrobe. These are the published starting points. Your price depends on your items, access and date.

The student year
When London students move — and when to book
Student moves bunch into a few weeks of the year. June to September is the peak, with the busiest days around the end of the summer term and the September intake. The earlier you book, the more choice of date and time you have — and your price is fixed the moment you book.
June
End-of-year move-outs
Exams finish, halls contracts end and house-share tenancies start to wrap up. Many students move home, into storage, or straight into next year's house.
July–August
New tenancies begin
Plenty of house-share tenancies start over the summer. If there is a gap between your old contract ending and the new one starting, that gap is where storage comes in.
September
Intake and Welcome Week
The busiest stretch of the student year: new students into halls, returning students into houses. Book early for the date you need — your price is fixed when you book.
January
January intake and mid-year moves
A smaller second rush for January starters and anyone changing rooms mid-year. Quieter than September, but halls still set move-in windows.

Student storage in London: you choose the unit, we do the moving
The summer gap between one tenancy ending and the next beginning is why so many London students look for storage. We want to be straight with you about our part in it. Movesmith provides the removal to or from a storage facility that you arrange and pay for. We do not supply, manage or guarantee the storage unit.
What we do is the part that needs a van and a team: collecting your things from halls or your house share and taking them to your unit at the end of term, then bringing them from the unit to your new address when you move in. Each leg is priced as its own fixed job, so you know both costs before you commit.
The standard fixed-price journey supports one home-to-storage or storage-to-home leg with confirmed facility hours or a matching booked slot, suitable loading access for a 3.5-tonne vehicle, less than 50 metres carry, and ground-floor access or a usable goods lift.
Choosing a storage unit that makes the move easy
- Book the unit before the move, and confirm its opening hours or book a slot that matches your move date.
- Check the unit size against what you are storing — a room's worth of boxes and a desk fits a far smaller unit than a whole flat.
- Pick a facility with loading access for a van and ground-floor units or a goods lift.
- Read what the facility's own terms say about your belongings while they are stored.
- Keep a list of what went in, and label boxes so the move out again is quick.

Halls rules and time slots
Many halls have set move-in/move-out windows, loading bays and sign-in rules. Tell us the window and we match an operator who'll work to it.
One room, not a whole house
Moving out of a house-share? You're priced on the items you own — a room's worth, not a whole-property rate.
Shared hallways and stairs
House shares and converted flats often mean narrow stairs, shared hallways and no lift. Give the floor and the access at both ends so it's in the price.
Check-out and your deposit
Leave time after the move to clean your room and be there for any check-out inspection. An empty, clean room on the right date is the best way to protect a deposit.
Packing on a student budget
Most student moves are boxes, bags and a few pieces of furniture, so packing well is most of the job. Use small boxes for books and anything heavy, keep bedding and clothes in bags or large boxes, and pack a first-night bag with chargers, toiletries and your keys. How much do student removals cost in London?
A single item starts from £105 with a team of two. A studio flat starts from £198. A room in a house share is priced on the items you list. The exact price depends on how much is moving, the distance, floors and access, and it's shown before you book — no hourly meter.
Do you offer student storage in London?
Movesmith provides the removal to or from a storage facility that you arrange and pay for. We do not supply, manage or guarantee the storage unit. So you choose and book the storage unit, and we move your things into it at the end of term and back out when your next tenancy starts, each as its own fixed-price move.
Can you move just one room from a house-share?
Yes — that's the most common student job. You pay for your items only, not a whole-property rate, and the price is fixed before you book.
Can my parents book and pay for the move?
Yes — anyone can book on your behalf. Put your own phone number in the booking contact details so the moving operator can reach whoever is at the pickup on the day.
Do you do halls move-ins and move-outs?
Yes. Halls usually have set time windows, loading bays and sign-in rules — share your slot when you book and we match a verified operator who'll work to it. September's intake weeks book up first, so lock a slot early.

When should I book a student move?
As soon as you know your date. June, and late August to late September, are the busiest times for student moves in London, and popular days go first. Your price is fixed when you book.
Can you move my things into storage over summer?
Movesmith provides the removal to or from a storage facility that you arrange and pay for. We do not supply, manage or guarantee the storage unit. The standard fixed-price journey supports one home-to-storage or storage-to-home leg with confirmed facility hours or a matching booked slot, suitable loading access for a 3.5-tonne vehicle, less than 50 metres carry, and ground-floor access or a usable goods lift. If the facility refuses entry, booked access is missing, the disclosed unit or access is wrong, the facility window is exceeded, or redelivery is needed, the operator pauses and submits a structured report with appropriate evidence. Waiting is free for 15 minutes, then £25 per started 30-minute block up to three blocks; configured failed access is £60; and £120 redelivery applies only to a supported short repeat visit using the same booked locations and disclosed access. A changed or uncertain journey or access needs a fresh fixed quote. Nothing extra is charged and no varied work continues unless you approve; if you reject it, Movesmith Ops coordinates the safe next step or rebooking.
What parking and access details do I need for halls or a house-share?
Tell us about pickup and delivery: choose where the van can park lawfully, then give the carry distance, floor, lift, stairs and any awkward access. A private driveway or unrestricted street selection is enough. For permit-controlled, paid or loading-bay parking, also give who is arranging it, whether it is confirmed, its operating window and the exact lawful position. Unknown access, unsupported restrictions or a carry outside the online pricing limits needs a tailored review before we offer a fixed price. Do not enter gate codes, passwords or access credentials in the booking.
What if the loading bay, lift or parking is unavailable?
If there is no lawful parking, furniture does not fit, access is unsafe, unplanned dismantling is needed or delivery cannot be completed, the operator pauses the affected work and sends Movesmith a structured report with evidence. The operator cannot invent a charge or take cash at the door. Movesmith reviews the facts and, if the job needs to change, sends you a fixed proposal. Extra work or payment happens only after you expressly approve it; if you reject it, there is no variation charge and Ops arranges the safe next step, rebooking or a fresh quote.
Do you cover moves outside London?
Yes — moving home at the end of term works too. The drive is built into the fixed quote; very long moves route to a quick custom quote so the right van and route are confirmed.
