Kits are sent by courier and delivery normally takes 1–3 working days. Where possible, order at least 5 working days before your move so you can pack at your own pace.

Small printed boxes(456 × 456 × 250mm)
Books, records, tins, tools and anything dense. Small boxes keep heavy things to a weight one person can carry safely up a stairwell.
Medium printed boxes(456 × 456 × 508mm)
Kitchen items, toys, shoes, small appliances and the contents of a desk. The general-purpose size most rooms use most.
Large printed boxes(456 × 456 × 780mm)
Bedding, duvets, pillows, cushions, lampshades and other light, bulky things. Keep them light: a large box full of books is a strain for anyone.
Small cartons(305 × 229 × 229mm)
Plain cartons for small, fiddly things: chargers, cables, bathroom bits, spices.
Medium cartons(305 × 305 × 305mm)

How many moving boxes do you need?
Start from your bedrooms. Our kits are built around typical homes: the studio and 1-bed kit has 21 boxes and the 4-bed+ jumbo kit has 51, with the 2-bed and 3-bed kits in between. That is a sensible starting point, not a promise — two flats with the same number of bedrooms can pack very differently.
Signs you should size up, or plan to top up:
- A lot of books, records or board games — they fill small boxes quickly.
- A full kitchen: crockery, glassware and pans take more boxes and more wrapping than people expect.
- A home office, hobby room or a loft, cellar or cupboard under the stairs that has quietly filled up.
- Children's toys, sports kit or instruments that don't live in one room.
- A wardrobe of hanging clothes you would rather not fold — wardrobe boxes keep them on their hangers.
Signs you could size down: a furnished let where the furniture stays, a recent declutter, or a house share where you are only packing your own room. If you are moving out of a shared house, see our student and house-share removals page.
Packing boxes delivered to your address
Kits are sent by courier. Delivery normally takes 1–3 working days — an estimate, not a guaranteed date — so where possible order at least 5 working days before your move. That leaves a few evenings to pack a room at a time rather than everything the night before.
Standard delivery to mainland UK addresses is included in the kit price, wherever you live. For a remote, offshore or unrecognised postcode, we confirm a fixed delivery price before you pay — never after. If you add a kit to a Movesmith move instead, it is charged as its own line when you book and delivered before your move date.
A few tips for delivery day: if you live in a block with a concierge or post room, tell them a delivery of boxes is expected; if there is no one to receive it, choose an address where someone will be in. Carrier tracking appears in your customer account when available.
How to self-pack like you've done it before
Start with the rooms you use least
Spare room, books, out-of-season clothes — packing the low-traffic stuff first keeps the house liveable until the final days.
Heavy in small, light in large
Books go in small boxes, bedding in large ones. A box one person can lift safely is a box that survives the move.
Wrap fragiles one at a time
Tissue first, bubble wrap for the breakable pieces, and fill the gaps so nothing shifts. Plates travel best on their edges, not flat.
Label by room, not by contents
"Bedroom 2" on the side (not the top) of every box means the crew can land each one in the right room without asking.
Pack for the stairs and the lift
Plenty of moves involve a walk-up, a narrow hallway or a small lift. Tape every seam, don't overfill, and keep each box to a weight you could carry up a flight yourself.
Keep a first-night box apart
Kettle, mugs, chargers, toiletries, bedding and any medication in one clearly marked box that travels with you or goes on the van last.

Changing your mind, returns and refunds
Packing Kits you buy from Movesmith, with a move or on their own, are sold under our Marketplace Terms. Clauses 27.8, 27.9 and 27.14 set out delivery, your 14-day right to cancel, returns and refunds. In short:
- You have 14 days to change your mind. The 14 days start on the day after you receive the whole kit.
- You must then send the kit back within 14 days after telling us. You pay the cost of returning it, as we tell you before checkout.
- If a kit arrives damaged, or with missing or wrong items, please tell us within 7 days of delivery, with photos where you can. This does not limit your legal rights.
- If you bought the kit with a move and the move is cancelled before the kit has been dispatched, we refund the kit in full.

Yes. Every kit is sent by courier to mainland UK addresses, and standard delivery is included in the kit price. Delivery normally takes 1–3 working days; where possible, order at least 5 working days before your move.
What's in a Movesmith self-packing kit?
Each kit is a sized bundle of printed boxes (small to large, plus wardrobe boxes), packing tape, tissue paper and bubble wrap — the exact contents of every kit are listed above before you choose.
How do I order a kit?
Order a kit directly from this page, or add one during a Movesmith booking. A standalone order is separate from any removal booking and appears in your secure customer account after you sign in with the same email.
When does the kit arrive?

Which kit size do I need?

Does a kit include packing labour?
No — kits are materials for packing yourself. If you'd rather have your crew pack for you, packing services can be booked separately as part of your move.
What if I need more boxes than the kit has?
The contents are listed on every kit so you can judge before ordering. Larger or fuller homes may need additional materials — size up, or top up from any supplier.
Can I buy moving boxes without booking a move?
Yes. You can order any of the four kits on its own from this page. It is a separate purchase from any removal booking, and you see the full contents and one fixed total before you pay.
Is delivery included?
Standard mainland delivery is included in the displayed kit price. Remote, offshore and other nonstandard delivery areas pause for a fixed delivery confirmation before payment, so we never charge first and surprise you later.
Can I cancel or return a packing kit?
Yes. Clause 27.14 of our Marketplace Terms covers every Packing Kit, whether bought with a move or on its own. You have 14 days to change your mind, starting the day after you receive the whole kit, and then 14 days to send it back after telling us. You pay the cost of returning it, as we tell you before checkout. If a kit arrives damaged, or with missing or wrong items, please tell us within 7 days of delivery, with photos where you can — that does not limit your legal rights.
