What does man and van work actually pay in London?
A daily figure alone does not tell you whether a job covers your costs. We can't tell you what you'll earn — that depends on your van, your costs and how much you work. What we can show you is the price every job is listed at before you accept it, and the costs that come off the top.
What Movesmith jobs are priced at
A published customer starting price is not your payout. Every offer shows the complete fixed figure for its actual scope, crew, vehicle, access and route before you accept.
Existing commission agreements and versioned cost-plus offers follow their accepted terms. The offer states the applicable arrangement and complete payout. Supported regulatory road charges are included without a platform-fee deduction on those amounts; there are no lead, listing or subscription fees.
What comes off the top in London
Working for yourself means the job price is revenue, not income. These are the costs that decide the difference. Check them against the full job plan before accepting.
Fuel and mileage
Check the selected journey plan, including any return driving. A move may include one or two same-day journeys; both journeys must be included when you assess fuel and time costs.
London road charges
The Congestion Charge, Dartford Crossing and relevant tunnel tolls can be passed through at 100%, with Movesmith taking no commission on them. ULEZ is different: using a compliant vehicle where required is always the operator's responsibility.

Finance or lease, servicing, tyres, MOT and depreciation. A suitable larger van may allow bigger moves; a smaller van can keep costs down but limits the job sizes you can accept.
Tax and National Insurance
You are self-employed, so nothing is deducted at source — set aside a share of every job for your own bill. This is not tax advice; check with HMRC or an accountant for your own position.

Loading, driving, unloading and the paperwork at each end. A job that pays well per hour on paper can look different once stairs, parking distance and a tight lift are factored in — which is why the job details matter as much as the price.

How is removals work different from parcel delivery work?
Parcel contracts generally pay per drop, so income scales with the number of stops you can complete in a shift. Removals work pays per job, so a single booking can be worth many multiples of a parcel drop, but you complete far fewer of them in a day and the physical demands are higher. They suit different vans, different insurance and, honestly, different people.
How many jobs will I get?
Job opportunities depend on customer demand, your area, availability and suitability for each move. We do not promise a weekly volume or typical income. There are no lead fees or subscription charges, so you do not pay Movesmith simply to wait for work.
