DIY store collection, without hiring a van

Bought something at B&Q, Wickes, Homebase or Screwfix that won't fit in the car? Skip the van hire. We collect it from the store and bring it to your door, anywhere in the UK, at a fixed price you see before you book.

  • One fixed price before you book
  • Collected and delivered on the date you book
  • Carried in to the floor you tell us
  • Movesmith accepts liability

Movesmith is independent and isn't affiliated with these retailers.

How pricing works

Hiring a van means a deposit, fuel, your own lifting and getting it back on time. With Movesmith you pay one fixed price for the job: what you're collecting, the drive, the access at your home and the date.

  1. Add what you're moving

Pick each item from the list. Not on the list? Describe it with its size and weight.

  2. Add both addresses

Where we collect from and where it's going, with the floor, any lift and where the van can park.

  3. See your fixed price

The price covers the van, the carry, the drive and the date. No hourly meter, nothing added on the day.

One flat-pack box from a shop

from £100

One flat-pack box up to 25 kg, collected from a shop, a short local drive, near the door at both ends, on a Monday to Thursday in the middle of the month. Prices include VAT.

An assembled wardrobe from a shop

from £110

A double wardrobe collected from a shop, a short local drive, near the door at both ends, on a Monday to Thursday in the middle of the month. Prices include VAT.

Flat-pack and boxed goods are priced from the number of boxes and the weight of the heaviest one, up to 30 boxes a line. A bigger order goes to our team, who confirm a fixed price before you book.

Every price is on our price list. Road charges such as the Congestion Charge show as their own line in the quote, never added afterwards.

What we collect from DIY stores

Most of what a DIY store sells comes boxed or flat-packed, and that's what we plan for. Tell us what you bought and we price the collection on what you're actually taking home.

  • Flat-pack furniture

Wardrobes, storage units, shelving, desks and beds, still in their boxes.

  • New appliances

A boxed washing machine, fridge freezer, cooker or dishwasher, collected in its packaging.

  • Garden furniture

Patio tables, chairs, benches and boxed garden sets. A lawnmower or boxed garden tools too.

  • Bathroom and storage pieces

Bathroom cabinets, boxed vanity units and storage. Bigger bathroom pieces are checked by our team first.

  • Rugs, mirrors and lighting

Rolled rugs, mirrors and floor lamps, wrapped and carried as one job.

  • Long or awkward pieces

A worktop, a door or lengths of timber aren't on the item list yet. Describe each one with its size and weight. If it fits a van we can price, you see the price. If not, our team checks it and confirms a fixed price before you book.

We don't collect loose sand, gravel or soil, bulk bags, waste or anything that needs fitting or disconnecting by a trade. Stone and quartz worktops and cast-iron baths always go to our team first.

How a store collection works

Buy your goods and choose to collect them. Most DIY stores will release an order to someone collecting for you, as long as you've told them and they can see the order.

  1. Buy and choose collection

Pay for your order in store or online and choose click and collect. Wait for the store to tell you it's ready.

  2. Start a quote

Choose Shop or retailer as the place we collect from, then add each item. For boxed goods, give the number of boxes and the heaviest one's weight.

  3. Add the collection details

Your order or collection number, the store's phone number and any collect-by date. Confirm the store will release the order to someone else.

  4. We collect and deliver

The driver collects from the store's collection point and delivers on the date you book, carried in to the floor you told us. Goods are never held overnight.

Before you book

  • Everything paid for

We collect goods you've bought and paid for. Sort out anything still to pay with the seller first.

  • A contact on the day

Add a name and phone number for the person releasing the goods. The driver calls them if anything is unclear.

  • A collect-by date

Some shops and sellers only hold goods for a set time. Add the date when you book, so the collection is planned before it.

  • Your route in

Check the turns on your stairs, the size of any lift and the width of your hallway. Long boxes and big sofas need room to turn.

  • Parking at both ends

Choose where the van can stop lawfully. If a permit or paid bay is needed, tell us who's arranging it.

Questions and answers

How much does it cost?

A flat-pack order from a store starts from £100: one box up to 25 kg, a short local drive, near the door at both ends, on a Monday to Thursday in the middle of the month. Prices include VAT. More boxes, heavier boxes, stairs at home and a longer drive all add time, and all of it is in the fixed price you see before you book.

How does this compare with hiring a van?

It depends on the job. A hired van has its own costs on top of the hire: fuel, a deposit, the time to collect and return it, and doing the lifting yourself. Our price includes the driver, the van, the carry and the drive. Enter your details to compare.

Can you collect my click and collect order?

Yes. Once the store says your order is ready, book a collection and add your order or collection number. Check first that the store will release it to someone collecting for you.

Can you collect a worktop, a door or timber?

They aren't on our item list yet. Describe each piece with its size and weight. If it fits a van we can price, you see the price straight away. Otherwise our team checks it and confirms a fixed price before you book. Stone and quartz worktops always go to our team.

Do you fit or assemble what you deliver?

No. We collect and deliver, carried in to the floor you tell us. We don't build flat-pack, fit kitchens or bathrooms, or connect appliances to gas or mains. Arrange that separately.

Is Movesmith part of B&Q, Wickes, Homebase or Screwfix?

No. Movesmith is independent and isn't affiliated with these retailers. You buy from the store, and we collect the order you've paid for and deliver it to you.

How soon can you collect?

The earliest you can book is the next day. Choose a date in the quote and you see the price for that date before you book. If the shop or seller has a collect-by date, pick a date before it.

What if the goods aren't ready or don't match when you arrive?

The driver follows the collection details you gave. They don't leave with something different or incomplete without a decision from Movesmith. They can't change the price or take cash. If the job needs to change, we send you a fixed proposal, and nothing extra happens unless you approve it.

Who is responsible if something is damaged?

Movesmith accepts liability for your goods while we move them, under the terms shown before you book. Every move includes Movesmith Cover up to £10,000 — with increased cover up to £50,000 available when you declare a higher value.
