Single items and small moves
Moving one or two things? You pay for those items, not a whole van-day. Each price is for a short local move, near the door at both ends.
| A single item, full team | from £100 |
|---|---|
| 3-seater sofa | from £100 |
| Fridge freezer | from £100 |
| Wardrobe from a shop | from £110 |
Happy to lift with the driver? Choose "I'll help" in the quote. Single items are from £100 either way. Helping saves most on bigger moves: a studio flat is from £165 instead of £270. "I'll help" means you help the driver carry heavy items.
"I'll help" or a full team
Helping the driver carry can bring the price down on a small home. "I'll help" means you help the driver carry heavy items. Both columns are for the ground floor or a lift, with the van near the door.
| Home | I'll help | Full team |
|---|---|---|
| Studio flat | I'll help: from £165 | Full team: from £270 |
| 1-bed flat | I'll help: from £210 | Full team: from £310 |
| 2-bed flat | I'll help: from £395 | Full team: from £605 |
Local and long-distance removal costs

|---|---|---|
| How it's priced | Local move: From the typical prices above, then your own list, access and date | Long-distance move: Priced instantly online from your list, access, date and the real route |
| The drive | Local move: Built into the fixed price | Long-distance move: Built into the fixed price, with the mileage shown as its own line |

| Your goods | Local move: Delivered on the day they're collected | Long-distance move: Delivered on the day they're collected, never kept overnight in the van |
| Bigger homes | Local move: A bigger van or more movers, chosen from your list | Long-distance move: A second Luton travels with the first when your home doesn't fit one |
We don't publish a set long-distance price: it depends on the distance and what's moving. Your quote shows one fixed price before you book.
What changes a removal price
Your price depends on your items, access and date. Here is what moves a quote away from the typical prices above.
| Stairs without a lift | Each floor adds a little, and more for bigger homes. |
|---|---|
| A long carry | Adds a little if the van can't park near your door. |
| Busy days | Fridays, weekends and the end of the month cost a bit more. |
| Distance | Priced on the real driving route between your postcodes. |
What you're moving
The quote starts from a typical list for your home. Add or remove things and the price follows. More furniture means more loading time, and sometimes a bigger van.
Access at both homes
Stairs without a lift, a lift that won't take furniture and a long walk from the van all add carrying time.
Packing
Pack yourself and pay nothing extra, buy a packing kit, or add packing help to the quote.
Road charges
The Congestion Charge, the Dartford Crossing and tunnel tolls are passed through at cost. If your route crosses one, the charge shows as its own line in your quote, with no commission taken. ULEZ and Clean Air Zones add nothing: the mover who takes the job must use a van that meets the standard.
Your quote shows the exact fixed price before you book, with nothing added on the day.
Fixed price or hourly rate?
Many movers charge by the hour, so a slow lift or heavy traffic adds to your bill. Our quote works out the time your move needs from your list, access and route, then fixes the price.
Your price is fixed before you book. It stays fixed while what you're moving, the addresses and the access match what you told us. There's no hourly meter, and the mover can't add anything on the day.
How to keep your removal costs down
Move less
Sell, give away or recycle what you don't want before the move. Fewer things means less loading time.
Pick a quieter day
Fridays, weekends and the end of the month cost a bit more, so a midweek date in the middle of the month helps.
Help the driver
On a smaller home, choosing "I'll help" means fewer movers and a lower price.
Pack yourself
Packing your own boxes costs nothing extra. Have everything sealed before the movers arrive.
Sort the access
Book the lift, measure big furniture and arrange parking close to the door. Tell us about it so the price is right first time.

Do stairs cost extra?
Stairs are built into your fixed price, never added on the day. Each floor without a lift adds a little, and more for bigger homes. Tell us the floor and whether there's a lift, and the carrying time is priced in.
How much does a long-distance removal cost?
We don't publish a set long-distance price, because it depends on the distance and what's moving. Moves across England and Wales are priced instantly online, with the drive, the mileage and the crew's return in one fixed price.
How are congestion charges, tolls and crossings handled?
The Congestion Charge, the Dartford Crossing and tunnel tolls are passed through at cost. If your route crosses one, the charge shows as its own line in your quote, with no commission taken. ULEZ and Clean Air Zones add nothing: the mover who takes the job must use a van that meets the standard.
How soon can I book?
The earliest you can book is the next day. Pick a date in the quote and you see the fixed price for that date before you book.
Who is responsible if something is damaged?
Movesmith accepts liability for your goods while we move them, under the terms shown before you book. Every move includes Movesmith Cover up to £10,000 — with increased cover up to £50,000 available when you declare a higher value.
