What Movesmith does

  • Movesmith is a fixed-price removals service for moves across the UK. Customers contract with Movesmith; verified independent moving operators carry out the move. Movesmith sets the accepted fixed price, handles payment and remains the customer's point of contact.
  • Movesmith (movesmith.uk) is a UK company and is not affiliated with The Movesmith, a moving company in Pennsylvania, USA.
  • Services: home removals (house and flat), furniture and single-item moves, man and van, student moves, business moves and packing services.

How pricing works

  • Instant fixed price. Enter the route, date, access and what is moving at https://movesmith.uk/book and the fixed price is shown before anything is booked.
  • Published "from" prices, including VAT, for a short local move on a standard day (Monday to Thursday mid-month). They are starting points, not offers: your price depends on your items, access and date.
  • Single item, 2 movers: from £70

What is included

  • The price includes VAT, and the access, the date and any road charges. It is one number, shown before booking.
  • Every move includes Movesmith Cover up to £10,000: Movesmith accepts liability for loss or damage, as set out in the Terms. A higher declared value may need a priced increase up to £50,000.
  • Packing labour and materials are separate; only services expressly offered and accepted form part of the booking.

Payment

  • The card is saved at booking and nothing is taken until a mover accepts.
  • Movesmith authorises the agreed price around 48 hours before the move and takes it after the customer signs the move off (or a documented completion review).

No mover means pay nothing

  • Clauses 27.6 and 33.3: if no mover accepts in time, Movesmith cancels the booking, releases any card authorisation and refunds in full anything paid. The customer pays nothing and is told straight away.

Cancellation and date changes

  • Clause 33.1 (cancellation fees, measured from the start of the arrival window):
  • 48 hours or more before: no fee.
  • 24 to 48 hours before: 50% retained.
  • Under 24 hours before: 75% retained.
  • Customer no-show on move day: 100% retained.
  • Clause 33.2 (changing your date): the price follows the new date. The customer sees it, with any fee, before confirming and can keep the original date. A dearer date costs the difference; a cheaper one costs less, with the difference refunded if already paid.
  • Clause 33.2: the first date change is free if asked 48 hours or more before the arrival window. With less notice, or for any later change, there is a £35 administration fee, shown before confirming. The new date must be within 90 days of the original.

  • Handoff: POST https://movesmith.uk/api/v1/quote/handoff returns a short-lived link. The customer reviews the proposed answers, then books and pays on Movesmith. It does not send email, book, reserve a mover or take payment.

  • The assistant never books. The customer confirms their full item list and access at https://movesmith.uk/book, where the final fixed price is shown.
