What is Movesmith? Movesmith is a removals booking platform where customers across the UK can submit move details and receive a fixed price, then book it straight away; a verified mover accepts the job, and if none does in time the customer pays nothing.

Birmingham man and van without the meter

Hourly vans make you pay for Birmingham's geography — the ring-road loop to reach a Digbeth loading bay, the wait for a canal-side block's lift, the crawl down the A38. Here the whole job is priced first: one fixed figure with floors, the walk from the van at both ends and mileage inside it, confirmed before you commit.

The flow is identical for a single wardrobe or a studio flat's worth: details in, fixed price out, booked straight away. A verified mover accepts the job, and if none does in time you pay nothing.

What a man and van covers in Birmingham

One booking flow for small loads and single items — bigger jobs move onto full removals pricing automatically.

  • Single-item & marketplace pickups

One sofa, a fridge, a Facebook Marketplace or eBay collection — pickup at one address, drop at another.

  • Studio & 1-bed flat moves

A small flat's worth of boxes and furniture in one or two van loads, with one or two movers.

  • House-share & student rooms

Just your room, priced on the items you own — not a whole-property rate.

  • Store & storage collections

IKEA, warehouse and storage-unit pickups delivered to your door at a fixed price.

  • Studio and bulky-item moves

Furniture, boxed belongings and bulky household items, planned around your access.

  • Move-outs & donation deliveries

Household contents moved to a new address, customer-arranged storage or charity. Clearance is not currently offered.

How it works

One quote flow, one fixed price, one verified operator matched to your job.

  1. 1

    Tell us what's moving

Item list or rough load size, both postcodes, floor level, lift and how far the van is from the door. The details that set the real price — not a per-hour guess.

  2. 2

    See your fixed price

One number before you book, with stairs and distance built in and any congestion or crossing charges shown as clear line items — never added on the day.

  3. 3

    A verified operator turns up

We match your job with a verified man-and-van operator who handles loading, transport and unloading, and completes sign-off.

What shapes a Birmingham price

  • Canal-side blocks and lifts

Jewellery Quarter, Digbeth and city-core apartments run on lift bookings and bay slots. Building rules go into the flow so the price and the plan match your block.

  • Suburban parking

Kings Heath, Erdington and Harborne jobs hinge on how close the van gets. Parking and carry distance are priced inputs, settled before the day.

  • Student turnover

Selly Oak moves one room at a time every summer. You pay for your items and access — never a whole-house rate for a single room.

  • Clean Air Zone honesty

Birmingham's Clean Air Zone applies to non-compliant vehicles and is the operator's responsibility — it's never added to your fixed price on the day.

Man and van in Birmingham — straight answers

Common questions on man-and-van pricing, what fits, and how Movesmith works.

How much does a man and van in Birmingham cost?

From £105 fixed for a small load, with floors, the walk from the van at both ends, load size and mileage inside the number. It stays fixed while those confirmed details match the job; material changes use Movesmith's approval process, not a doorstep price.

Fixed price or hourly?

Fixed once you book. The job is priced from your details; traffic and loading time are not your problem, and the price stays the same while the details match the job.

Are operators verified?

Movesmith checks identity, Goods in Transit and Public Liability documents, records the declared vehicle type, and requires a vehicle-compliance declaration. Once you book, a verified mover accepts the job; if none does in time, you pay nothing.

What jobs can a Birmingham man and van do?

Marketplace and store collections, single furniture pieces, studio and 1-bed flat loads, student rooms and storage runs. Larger moves flow into full removals pricing in the same booking.

Can I book a man and van near me in Birmingham?

Any postcode can be quoted — Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and beyond. The journey, the crew and the van are all in one fixed price.

What if no crew confirms?

If suitable capacity is not confirmed, the priority request does not become a booking and no card is saved or charged.

What happens after the quote?

Submitting a priority request does not save or hold a card while suitable local or route-based operator capacity is checked. If capacity is confirmed and you proceed with booking, your card is saved. Once a verified operator is confirmed, we reserve the fixed price around 48 hours before your move — or immediately if your move is within 48 hours. Normally payment is captured after sign-off or documented completion review. An expressly agreed multi-day payment agreement may require collection before work starts; the booking shows this before you accept.

What parking and access details do I need to provide?

Tell us about pickup and delivery: choose where the van can park lawfully, then give the carry distance, floor, lift, stairs and any awkward access. A private driveway or unrestricted street selection is enough. For permit-controlled, paid or loading-bay parking, also give who is arranging it, whether it is confirmed, its operating window and the exact lawful position. Unknown access, unsupported restrictions or a carry outside the online pricing limits needs a tailored review before we offer a fixed price. Do not enter gate codes, passwords or access credentials in the booking.

What happens if parking or access is different on moving day?

If there is no lawful parking, furniture does not fit, access is unsafe, unplanned dismantling is needed or delivery cannot be completed, the operator pauses the affected work and sends Movesmith a structured report with evidence. The operator cannot invent a charge or take cash at the door. Movesmith reviews the facts and, if the job needs to change, sends you a fixed proposal. Extra work or payment happens only after you expressly approve it; if you reject it, there is no variation charge and Ops arranges the safe next step, rebooking or a fresh quote.

Can I hire movers and a van for a few hours?

Yes. Man and van, 2 hours (1 person and a medium van): £125, extra hour £50. 2 people and a van, 2 hours (2 people and a medium van): £175, extra hour £75. 2 hours, 2 movers and a Luton van: £205. 2 hours, 3 movers and a Luton van: £275. Half day, 2 movers and a Luton van for 4 hours: £340. Full day, 2 movers and a Luton van for 8 hours: £680. Full day, 3 movers and a Luton van for 8 hours: £920. Prices include VAT. Everything is included in your hours: stairs and carrying, dismantling and rebuilding, your items and boxes, and a second load. Running over? An extra hour is £80 for 2 movers or £120 for 3 movers, charged after the move, never on the doorstep. Book a crew: half or full day.
