The examples below were priced by our engine for real Cambridge postcodes, and the towns around the city have their own sections on this page.

- Protected payment flow
- Your team confirmed once they accept

What is Movesmith? Movesmith is a removals booking platform where customers across the UK can submit move details and receive a fixed price, then book it straight away; a verified mover accepts the job, and if none does in time the customer pays nothing.
Moving home in Cambridge
Cambridge has about 145,700 residents (2021 census) and sits on the River Cam, next to the M11 and the A14. Those two roads carry most of the traffic in and out, so a move to Huntingdon, Newmarket or Saffron Walden is mostly a motorway or dual carriageway run with a short finish through town streets.
The housing is a patchwork. Mill Road and Romsey grew up around the railway as Victorian terraces, Arbury and Chesterton have post-war estates north of the river, Cherry Hinton and Trumpington joined the city in 1934, and Trumpington Meadows is much newer. Postcodes help: CB1 covers the centre and south, CB2 the west, CB3 the north-west, CB4 the north and CB5 the east.
The University of Cambridge and its colleges shape the calendar, because many people move in or out at the end of a term or a lease. If you can, pick a date away from those peaks, and check any college or landlord rules on loading times before the day.
What a move costs in Cambridge CB1
Every Movesmith quote is fixed before you book. The “from” prices below match the live booking flow — your exact number depends on the details you share.
| Move size | Fixed price from |

| Studio flat | £200 |
| 1-bed flat | £230 |
| 2-bed flat | £270 |
| 3-bed house | £635 |
| 4-bed house | £1,050 |
| 5+ bed house | £1,690 |
Prices include VAT and are for a typical home on a short local move, Monday to Thursday mid-month. Your price depends on your items, access and date. Your exact price is fixed before you book, and any toll or crossing charges on your route are shown as their own line — never added afterwards.
The national table starts single items from £70. Between CB1 (the centre and south) and CB4 (the north), our engine priced a 1-bed flat at £230 and a 2-bed flat at £270. A 3-seater sofa on the same trip came to £105. Your own price follows your addresses, access and date.

| Move | Between | Fixed price |
|---|---|---|
| 3-seater sofa | CB1 3NG to CB4 2AW | £105 |

Three routes out of Cambridge
- Cambridge to Ely: a 1-bed flat for £320, about 30 minutes' drive (22 miles).
- Cambridge to Newmarket: a 1-bed flat for £255, about 25 minutes' drive (15 miles).
- Cambridge to Huntingdon: a 1-bed flat for £320, about 30 minutes' drive (21 miles).
Any road, toll or crossing charge on a route, such as a river crossing or a clean air zone charge for a van that doesn't meet the standard, is shown in your quote as its own line.
You can book for today, subject to a mover accepting.
The price you see is the price you pay, as long as your move matches what you told us. Our pricing engine works it out from your addresses, your items and your date.

If no mover accepts, you pay nothing and we tell you straight away. You can then pick another date or cancel.
Moving-day access in Cambridge
Parking and highway rules change, so each note links to the official page it was checked against.
The historic centre is restricted
Cambridgeshire County Council runs a pedestrian priority area in the historic centre, 24 hours a day, with an extra restriction from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday. Loading is possible outside those hours. Day permits are not automatic and are asked for at least two weeks ahead, so tell us early if your address is inside it.

The county council can suspend a bay for a removal. You apply through its MiPermit portal with at least seven days' notice, there is a fee, and a sign goes up at the bay. The council says it cannot promise a space, because it cannot remove cars already parked there.

Cambridge has several resident parking schemes, each with its own days, hours and list of streets. Some roads inside a scheme have no permit parking, and some zones, such as the city-centre zone, issue no visitor permits. Check the page for your own street before the day.

Before you move in Cambridge
Terraces with no driveway
Many streets around Mill Road, Romsey and Petersfield are lined with terraces and parked cars. The van may stop some way from your door, so tell us how far and the carry is part of the plan.
Cyclists and narrow streets
Cambridge is busy with bikes, and older streets are tight. A crew loads from the kerb side and works around passing cyclists, so say if your street is narrow or one-way.
College and student moves
If you are leaving a college room or a shared student house, ask the college or landlord about loading times and where a van may stop. A room's worth of belongings is priced on what you own.
Newer flats and managed blocks
Blocks in places like Trumpington have shared entrances and a managing agent. Add the floor, whether there is a lift and any booking rule for the day.
Removals in Ely
- Homes: Terraces and cottages near the cathedral and the river, with newer estates on the edges. Say whether you are in the old centre or an estate, because the loading plan differs.
- Roads: The A10 links Ely with Cambridge, so a move between the two is one straight run. Ely is in the CB6 and CB7 postcodes.
- Streets: Roads near the cathedral and the riverside are narrow. Tell us where the van can stop so the carry is planned.
Removals in St Ives
- Homes: A market town on the Great Ouse, with older terraces and cottages in the centre and newer estates around it. St Ives is in PE27.
- Roads: The guided busway runs between St Ives and Cambridge, but vans use the roads, so the drive is priced on the road route.
- Streets: Streets near the river and the old bridge are tight. Say how close the van can get.
Removals in Huntingdon
- Homes: A mix of older terraces near the centre and estates on the edges, with Godmanchester across the Great Ouse. The town is mostly in PE29, with PE28 for the surrounding villages.
- Roads: The A14 meets the A1 here, so Huntingdon is a short run from Cambridge and an easy start for a longer move north.
- Planning: A move from here to Peterborough is on the A1, and the route is priced like any other.
Removals in St Neots
- Homes: Eaton Socon, Eaton Ford and Eynesbury sit on the town's edges, with a mix of older and newer streets. St Neots is in PE19.
- Access: Newer estates are still being built on the edges, so ask your developer or managing agent about site access before the day.
- Travel: The railway station is on the East Coast main line, but a move is by road, and the drive to Cambridge is priced from your addresses.
Removals in Newmarket
- Place: Newmarket is in Suffolk, not Cambridgeshire, and is known for horse racing. Its postcode is CB8, along with Exning and nearby villages.
- Roads: Horses are walked across some roads on the way to the heath, so crews slow down and give way. Plan around the early morning if you can.
- Homes: Older houses near the High Street and newer estates on the edges. Tell us the floor and where the van can stop.
Removals in Saffron Walden
- Homes: An Essex market town of older timber-framed and brick houses with narrow streets, plus newer estates around it. Postcodes are CB10 and CB11.
- Streets: Market days in the centre mean busier streets, so a crew may park further away. Tell us the distance from the door.
- Roads: The M11 is close, so the drive to Cambridge is short and the finish is through town streets.
Removals in Royston
- Place: Royston is a Hertfordshire town on the A10, in the SG8 postcode, with Victorian terraces near the centre and newer estates around it.
- Travel: The A10 runs to Cambridge and the railway links Royston with Cambridge too, but the van takes the road.
- Access: Terraces near the centre may have little off-street space. Say where the van can stop.
Removals in Histon and Cottenham
- Place: Histon and Impington run into the northern edge of Cambridge, and Cottenham is a large village a little further out. All three are in CB24.
- Homes: Village streets, cul-de-sacs and 1930s semis rather than city terraces, usually with a driveway or kerb space.
- Roads: Roads into Cambridge are busy at school and work times, so a mid-morning arrival window can be easier.

Cambridge removals — straight answers
Common questions on local moves, pricing and how Movesmith works.
How much does a removal in Cambridge cost?
Our engine priced a 1-bed flat from CB1 to CB4 at £230 and a 2-bed flat at £270, fixed. A bigger home, more floors or a longer carry costs more, and you see your own price before you book.
Can I book fixed-price removals in Cambridge?
Yes. Enter both addresses, your rooms and the access at each end, and the quote shows one fixed price for your date. Choose the date in the quote and the price is for that day.
Can I reserve parking for a removals van in Cambridge?
Yes. Cambridgeshire County Council can suspend a bay if you apply through its MiPermit portal at least seven days ahead, and there is a fee. The council says it cannot promise a space, and the historic centre has its own access rules.
Are there moving teams near Cambridge?
We don't have many movers based in Cambridge yet. Your job goes to approved movers based nearby and to movers further away who choose to travel for it. We save your card when you book. We take nothing until a mover accepts. If no mover accepts, you pay nothing and we tell you straight away. You can then pick another date or cancel.
When is my card charged?
Nothing is taken when you book. Once a mover accepts, we hold the price about 48 hours before your move, or straight away if your move is sooner. Normally we take the payment after the move is done.
Can you move me from Cambridge to Ely, Huntingdon or Newmarket?
Yes. The routes on this page price a 1-bed flat from Cambridge to Ely, Newmarket and Huntingdon. For your own move, enter both addresses and the drive is part of the fixed price.
Are the moving operators for Cambridge moves verified?
Yes. Movesmith checks identity, Goods in Transit and Public Liability documents, records the declared vehicle type and requires a vehicle-compliance declaration before an operator takes bookings. We do not claim to physically inspect vehicles.
What if something is damaged?
Movesmith shows the applicable liability terms before you book. Your declared goods value helps us match the move with a suitable verified moving operator. Report from your booking page within 7 days of completion — including damage you couldn't reasonably spot at delivery.
What parking and access details do I need to provide?
Tell us about pickup and delivery: choose where the van can park lawfully, then give the carry distance, floor, lift, stairs and any awkward access. A private driveway or unrestricted street selection is enough. For permit-controlled, paid or loading-bay parking, also give who is arranging it, whether it is confirmed, its operating window and the exact lawful position. Unknown access, unsupported restrictions or a carry outside the online pricing limits needs a tailored review before we offer a fixed price. Do not enter gate codes, passwords or access credentials in the booking.
What happens if parking or access is different on moving day?
If there is no lawful parking, furniture does not fit, access is unsafe, unplanned dismantling is needed or delivery cannot be completed, the operator pauses the affected work and sends Movesmith a structured report with evidence. The operator cannot invent a charge or take cash at the door. Movesmith reviews the facts and, if the job needs to change, sends you a fixed proposal. Extra work or payment happens only after you expressly approve it; if you reject it, there is no variation charge and Ops arranges the safe next step, rebooking or a fresh quote.
Can you move me from Cambridge to Ely?
Yes. The route on this page prices a 1-bed flat from Cambridge to Ely (CB7). For your own move, enter both addresses and the drive is part of the fixed price, with the floors and the carry at each end.
Do you cover moves in and out of St Ives?
Yes. Enter both addresses and the quote shows one fixed price for the drive and the access at each end. St Ives sits in the PE27 postcode, and the same quote works for a move to or from Cambridge.
Can you move me from Cambridge to Huntingdon?
Yes. The route on this page prices a 1-bed flat from Cambridge to Huntingdon (PE29). For your own move, both addresses go into the quote and the drive is part of the fixed price.
Do you move people to and from St Neots?
Yes. Put both addresses into the quote and you see one fixed price that includes the drive. The same applies for St Neots to Cambridge or St Neots to Peterborough.
Can you move me from Cambridge to Newmarket?
Yes. The route on this page prices a 1-bed flat from Cambridge to Newmarket (CB8). For your own move, enter both addresses and the quote gives one fixed price for the drive and the access.
Do you cover Saffron Walden?
Yes. Enter the addresses and the quote shows one fixed price. Saffron Walden is in Essex, close to Cambridge, and a move across the county line is priced like any other.
Can you move me from Royston to Cambridge?
Yes. Both addresses go into the quote, and the fixed price covers the drive on the A10 and the access at each end. Royston is in Hertfordshire, and the same quote applies.
Do you move people in Histon and Cottenham?
Yes. Enter the addresses and the quote shows one fixed price. Histon, Impington and Cottenham are in CB24, and a move into Cambridge is a short drive priced from your two addresses.
How much is a man and van in Cambridge?
Small loads and single items start from £70, fixed. You see the exact price for your Cambridge move before you book — no hourly meter, and the price stays fixed while the move matches the inventory, route and access you confirmed.
