What is Movesmith? Movesmith is a removals booking platform where customers across the UK can submit move details and receive a fixed price, then book it straight away; a verified mover accepts the job, and if none does in time the customer pays nothing.
Moving home in Plymouth
Plymouth is a port city on Plymouth Sound, with a long naval history and a working dockyard at Devonport. Much of the old centre was rebuilt after the Second World War, so the middle of town is wide streets and post-war blocks, while the Barbican keeps its cobbled harbour lanes.
The ground is hilly. The Hoe rises above the Sound, and streets in Stonehouse, Mutley and Greenbank climb in short, steep runs, which matters for a carry and for where a van can stand. Postcodes help: PL1 covers the centre, the Hoe, the Barbican and Devonport, PL4 Mutley and Greenbank, PL7 Plympton and PL9 Plymstock.
The university sits in the city centre, so student lets cluster in Mutley, Greenbank and Stoke. Term-end weeks are busy, and a house of five rooms can mean five small moves on one street. Plympton and Plymstock to the east are family suburbs with driveways and estate roads, and the A38 carries moves out towards Exeter or across the Tamar into Cornwall.

Single items start from £70 on the national table. For Plymouth we priced a trip from PL1, covering the centre, the Hoe and the Barbican, to PL4 in Mutley and Greenbank: £305 for a 1-bed flat, £360 for a 2-bed flat and £195 for a 3-seater sofa. Hills, stairs and the date can move your own figure, which you see before paying.

| 3-seater sofa | PL1 3JG to PL4 8PX | £195 |

Three routes out of Plymouth
- Plymouth to Plympton: a 1-bed flat for £335, about 15 minutes' drive (6 miles).
- Plymouth to Buckfastleigh: a 1-bed flat for £480, about 30 minutes' drive (22 miles).
- Plymouth to Ivybridge: a 1-bed flat for £355, about 20 minutes' drive (12 miles).
Any road, toll or crossing charge on a route, such as a river crossing or a clean air zone charge for a van that doesn't meet the standard, is shown in your quote as its own line.
You can book for today, subject to a mover accepting.
The price you see is the price you pay, as long as your move matches what you told us. Our pricing engine works it out from your addresses, your items and your date.
Who will do your move
We don't have movers covering Plymouth yet. You can still see your fixed price and send us your move. We don't save or take a card for this.
If a mover can do it, we'll tell you and you can book. If not, nothing happens and you owe nothing.
Moving-day access in Plymouth
Parking and highway rules change, so each note links to the official page it was checked against.
Permit zones in parts of the city
Plymouth City Council runs resident permit zones in some areas, and any vehicle parked in a zone needs a permit. The council says it cannot promise a space will be free, so a van may have to stop further along. Tell us if your street is in a zone.

Residents in controlled zones can apply for visitor parking, and the type depends on the zone. If you are moving into a zone, check which visitor option applies to your street, and tell us how close the van can stop.

The Tamar Bridge and the Torpoint Ferry are tolled crossings run by the Tamar crossings operator. A move into Cornwall by either route should allow for the crossing, and the operator's page shows the current arrangements.

Before you move in Plymouth
Steep streets and hill starts
Stonehouse, Mutley and the streets below the Hoe slope hard. Tell us if your road is steep, because a longer carry from a stop on the flat is better than a van left on a gradient.
Barbican lanes
The Barbican's cobbled lanes are narrow and often busy with visitors. Say where the van can stop and how far the carry is, and we plan the unload around it.
Student houses near the university
Shared houses in Mutley and Greenbank change hands at the same few weeks of the year. Book early, list each room's contents and say who will be in to hand over the keys.
Plympton, Plymstock and beyond
The eastern suburbs have driveways and estate roads. The A38 takes a move towards Exeter, and the Tamar Bridge a move into Cornwall. The drive is part of the fixed price.
Removals in Saltash and Cornwall
- Place: Saltash is the first Cornish town over the Tamar, in the PL12 postcode, with older streets near the waterside and newer estates above.
- Crossing: A move from Plymouth crosses the Tamar by bridge or by the Torpoint Ferry. The drive is priced from your two addresses.
- Streets: Streets near the waterside are steep and narrow in places. Tell us how far the van can stop from your door.
Removals in Tavistock
- Place: Tavistock is a market town on the western edge of Dartmoor, in the PL19 postcode, with stone terraces near the centre.
- Roads: The A386 links Tavistock with Plymouth, so the drive is a straightforward run north from the city.
- Streets: The centre has narrow streets with limited kerb space. A crew may carry from the nearest safe stop, so say where that is.

Plymouth removals — straight answers
Common questions on local moves, pricing and how Movesmith works.
How much is a man and van in Plymouth?
From PL1 to PL4 the engine gave £305 for a 1-bed flat, £360 for a 2-bed flat and £195 for a sofa, all fixed. Extra floors, a long carry or a bigger load raise the figure, and the quote shows yours first.
Can I book fixed-price removals in Plymouth?
Yes. Put in the pickup and drop-off, the load and the access at each end, then pick a day. The price you see belongs to that day and does not change after you book.
Can I park a removals van on my street in Plymouth?
Usually, yes, unless your street is in a resident permit zone. The council says a permit does not promise a free space, so tell us where the van can stop and how steep the street is.
Are there moving teams near Plymouth?
We don't have movers covering Plymouth yet. You can still see your fixed price and send us your move. We don't save or take a card for this. If a mover can do it, we'll tell you and you can book. If not, nothing happens and you owe nothing.
Can you move me from Plymouth to Plympton, Ivybridge or Buckfastleigh?
Yes. The routes on this page price a 1-bed flat from Plymouth to Plympton, Ivybridge and Buckfastleigh. For your own move, enter both addresses and the drive is part of the fixed price.
Are the moving operators for Plymouth moves verified?
Yes. Movesmith checks identity, Goods in Transit and Public Liability documents, records the declared vehicle type and requires a vehicle-compliance declaration before an operator takes bookings. We do not claim to physically inspect vehicles.
What if something is damaged?
Movesmith shows the applicable liability terms before you book. Your declared goods value helps us match the move with a suitable verified moving operator. Report from your booking page within 7 days of completion — including damage you couldn't reasonably spot at delivery.
What parking and access details do I need to provide?
Tell us about pickup and delivery: choose where the van can park lawfully, then give the carry distance, floor, lift, stairs and any awkward access. A private driveway or unrestricted street selection is enough. For permit-controlled, paid or loading-bay parking, also give who is arranging it, whether it is confirmed, its operating window and the exact lawful position. Unknown access, unsupported restrictions or a carry outside the online pricing limits needs a tailored review before we offer a fixed price. Do not enter gate codes, passwords or access credentials in the booking.
What happens if parking or access is different on moving day?
If there is no lawful parking, furniture does not fit, access is unsafe, unplanned dismantling is needed or delivery cannot be completed, the operator pauses the affected work and sends Movesmith a structured report with evidence. The operator cannot invent a charge or take cash at the door. Movesmith reviews the facts and, if the job needs to change, sends you a fixed proposal. Extra work or payment happens only after you expressly approve it; if you reject it, there is no variation charge and Ops arranges the safe next step, rebooking or a fresh quote.
Can you move me from Plymouth to Saltash or Cornwall?
Yes. For a move to Saltash or elsewhere in Cornwall, enter both addresses and the drive is part of the fixed price, with the access at each end.
Do you cover moves between Plymouth and Tavistock?
Yes. Enter both addresses and the quote shows one fixed price for the drive and the access at each end.
