What is Movesmith? Movesmith is a removals booking platform where customers across the UK can submit move details and receive a fixed price, then book it straight away; a verified mover accepts the job, and if none does in time the customer pays nothing.
Tonbridge: a river-crossing town that commuters love
Tonbridge is a Kent market town on the River Medway, about 29 miles south-east of London and four miles north of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Around 41,000 people lived here in 2019. The castle stands where the marshy river could be forded, and the town stayed north of the water for centuries because the land to the south flooded.
That history shows in the housing: Victorian and Edwardian terraces north of the river, 1930s semis out towards Cage Green and Barden, and newer estates at Hilden Park and Higham. The High Street runs down towards the castle and the river, with flats above many of the shops.
Tonbridge is a main railway junction with lines to London, Ashford, Hastings and Redhill, and it has the A21 and A26 on its doorstep. Moves to Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Maidstone are short, and the prices are lower on this page.

Moving-day access in Tonbridge
Parking and highway rules change, so each note links to the official page it was checked against.
Digital permits, one address
Tonbridge's resident permits are fully digital, with the vehicle registration entered on every permit. A permit can only be held for one address at a time, so a move means applying again at the new address and cancelling the old.

If you apply before you move in, the Council accepts house purchase documents from your solicitor or a signed tenancy agreement as proof of address. New developments are not usually added to existing permit areas, so ask first.

Dispensations are also tied to a vehicle registration number. If you have no eligible address in a permit area you create a non-resident account to apply, so have the van's number from your mover ready.

Only Civil Enforcement Officers can enforce parking rules, and they can only issue penalty notices. They cannot clear a car from a space for you, so tell neighbours about your move date.

Before you move in Tonbridge
Flats along the High Street
Many homes above shops share a stair or an entrance on the street. Say which floor you are on and where the van can pull in, and the carry is priced in.
Permit streets near the station
Roads round the station are commuter territory with permit parking. Check your street before you choose a day, and ask whether a dispensation applies to a removal van.
Cross the river with care
The Medway has only a few crossings, and the A21 and A26 queue at peak times. Choose a mid-morning arrival window when you can; the drive is built into your fixed price.
New-build estates
Hilden Park and Higham are newer estates with tight driveways and visitor-only bays. Tell the quote how close the van can get.
Check the latest rules at the source
Parking and highway rules change, so confirm your street's arrangements on the council's own pages before moving day.

Tonbridge removals — straight answers
Common questions on local moves, pricing and how Movesmith works.
How much does a removal in Tonbridge cost?
From TN9 to TN10 our engine priced a 1-bed flat at £225 and a 2-bed flat at £265. The stairs, the walk to the van and the date move the figure, and you see your fixed price before you book.
Can I book fixed-price removals in Tonbridge?
Yes. Enter both addresses, what you are moving and the access at each end, and the quote returns one fixed price. The date you choose is the date the price is for.
Do I need a permit or dispensation for a removal van in Tonbridge?
In a permit area, a dispensation is the council's way to let a vehicle park without a permit for a short time. Tonbridge and Malling ties dispensations to a vehicle registration and says you can apply through a non-resident account.
Are there moving teams near Tonbridge?
1 approved mover is based within about 20 miles of Tonbridge. When you book, they can see your job and choose to take it. We save your card when you book. We take nothing until a mover accepts. If no mover accepts, you pay nothing and we tell you straight away.
When is my card charged?
Nothing is taken when you book. Once a mover accepts, we hold the price about 48 hours before your move, or straight away if your move is sooner. Normally we take the payment after the move is done.
Can you move me from Tonbridge to Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks or Maidstone?
Yes. The routes on this page price a 1-bed flat from Tonbridge to Tunbridge Wells, to Sevenoaks and to Maidstone. For your own move, both addresses go into the quote and the drive is part of the fixed figure.
Are the moving operators for Tonbridge moves verified?
Yes. Movesmith checks identity, Goods in Transit and Public Liability documents, records the declared vehicle type and requires a vehicle-compliance declaration before an operator takes bookings. We do not claim to physically inspect vehicles.
What if something is damaged?
Movesmith shows the applicable liability terms before you book. Your declared goods value helps us match the move with a suitable verified moving operator. Report from your booking page within 7 days of completion — including damage you couldn't reasonably spot at delivery.
What parking and access details do I need to provide?
Tell us about pickup and delivery: choose where the van can park lawfully, then give the carry distance, floor, lift, stairs and any awkward access. A private driveway or unrestricted street selection is enough. For permit-controlled, paid or loading-bay parking, also give who is arranging it, whether it is confirmed, its operating window and the exact lawful position. Unknown access, unsupported restrictions or a carry outside the online pricing limits needs a tailored review before we offer a fixed price. Do not enter gate codes, passwords or access credentials in the booking.
What happens if parking or access is different on moving day?
If there is no lawful parking, furniture does not fit, access is unsafe, unplanned dismantling is needed or delivery cannot be completed, the operator pauses the affected work and sends Movesmith a structured report with evidence. The operator cannot invent a charge or take cash at the door. Movesmith reviews the facts and, if the job needs to change, sends you a fixed proposal. Extra work or payment happens only after you expressly approve it; if you reject it, there is no variation charge and Ops arranges the safe next step, rebooking or a fresh quote.
How much is a man and van in Tonbridge?
Small loads and single items start from £70, fixed. You see the exact price for your Tonbridge move before you book — no hourly meter, and the price stays fixed while the move matches the inventory, route and access you confirmed.
