House removals and movers in Manchester, at a fixed price
Leaving a Deansgate apartment, an Ancoats mill conversion or a family house in the suburbs? Enter both addresses, what you're moving and the access at each end, and one fixed price is on screen before you book. We then look for a suitable vetted team for your date, and the team is confirmed once they accept.
Every day, 8am–8pm, UK time · price on screen before you book

A price fixed for your move
Your quote is worked out for your two addresses, your items and the access at each end, and it doesn't change on the day while the move matches what you told us. If something material changes, Movesmith reviews the evidence and you approve any new price first.
Travel inside the figure
The drive between your addresses, the crew, the van and the return journey all sit inside the one figure you see before booking.
A vetted team accepts your move
Book straight away at the fixed price. Your move goes to vetted teams and the first to accept takes it; if none accepts in time, we cancel and you pay nothing.
Moving in Manchester.
There's no need to ring round every moving company in Manchester for a quote. Movesmith is the booking platform in front of vetted removal crews, not one of the removal companies with vans of its own: you describe the move once, the price is fixed from your inventory, floors, the walk from the van and date, and the movers who carry it out have accepted that exact job.
Away from the city centre, a house move from Chorlton, Levenshulme or Didsbury usually turns on stairs, the size of the load and how close the van can park, rather than on lifts. Greater Manchester's clean air plan has no charges to drive on local roads, so there's no zone fee to plan around for a van.

What removals cost: our published starting prices
These are the starting prices Movesmith publishes across its area pages, not a separate Manchester rate card. Your own price is worked out for your two addresses, your items, the access at each end and your date, and it's fixed before you book.
| Move size | Local moves from |
|---|---|
| Single item or man & van | £105 |
| Man and van (small load) | £105 |
| Studio flat | £198 |
| 1-bed flat | £201 |
| 2-bed flat | £421 |
| 3-bed house | £721 |
| 4-bed house | £1,073 |
Longer moves are priced by distance — your quote shows the exact fixed price before you book.
Prices include VAT and are for a typical home on a short local move, Monday to Thursday mid-month. Your price depends on your items, access and date. Your exact price is fixed before you book, and any toll or crossing charges on your route are shown as their own line — never added afterwards.

Flat removals in Manchester
A city-centre flat move depends more on the building than on the distance. Plenty of city-centre homes are former mills and warehouses turned into flats, in Ancoats, the Northern Quarter and Castlefield, while the four Deansgate Square towers on the southern edge of the centre hold around 1,500 homes. The figures below assume the ground floor or a lift at each end; your fixed price adds the time your own floors, lift and loading take.
- Studio flat from £198
- 1-bed flat from £201
- 2-bed flat from £421
Mill and warehouse conversions
Ancoats, the Northern Quarter and Castlefield are full of converted industrial buildings. A conversion can mean long internal corridors, a lift smaller than the building suggests or a courtyard a van can't enter, so measure the lift and give the walk from the kerb to your front door.
Towers, lift bookings and concierge desks
In a tower off Deansgate or around Great Jackson Street, ask the concierge or managing agent whether the lift has to be booked, whether there's a set move-in window and where vans should load. Add those answers to your booking and the crew arrives with the slot already planned.
Loading bays and yellow lines
Manchester City Council allows loading on some yellow lines where the traffic order permits it, for as long as loading takes, but never during a loading restriction shown by kerb blips and signs, or where signs say no stopping. Some loading bays are for goods vehicles only and their hours vary, so read the sign outside your building.
Suspensions and dispensations
If loading will take over an hour, the council advises a dispensation, which lets a named vehicle park on single or double yellow lines for a set time. A pay-and-display bay can also be suspended for a domestic removal. Both need at least five working days' notice and carry a daily council fee, and the council asks you to check the spot in person rather than trusting online maps.
Student flats on the Oxford Road corridor
The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University both sit on Oxford Road, which carries on south as Wilmslow Road through Rusholme and Fallowfield. A room or studio in a student block is usually a small load: list only your own things and check your hall's key and unloading instructions.
Salford Quays is a different council
The Quays apartment blocks sit in the City of Salford, not Manchester, so parking there follows Salford City Council's rules rather than the ones above. Our Salford page covers them.
Movers and packers in Manchester
Packing isn't part of a removal price unless you ask for it, and we don't guess at it. Request packing help with your Manchester move and say which rooms need packing, whether you need boxes and materials, and whether anything should be unpacked at the other end. We review that work and quote it separately before you book. Doing your own packing? The fixed removal price then covers loading, the drive and unloading.

How much do removals in Manchester cost?
Movesmith's published starting prices are £105 for a single item or small man-and-van load, £201 for a 1-bed flat and £721 for a 3-bed house. They're the figures we publish for every area, not Manchester-only rates. Your own quote is worked out from your inventory, both addresses, the access at each end and your date; supported moves price online, and moves needing further planning receive a tailored fixed quote. You review the complete price before booking, and it stays fixed while the move matches what you confirmed.
Is Movesmith a Manchester removal company?
No. Movesmith is a booking platform, not a removal company with its own depot or vans. You see your fixed price first and can book it straight away. Your move then goes to vetted moving teams, and your team is confirmed once they accept it. Should no team take it on in time, the booking is cancelled, you hear at once and you pay nothing. Moves across Greater Manchester, including Salford, Oldham, Bolton and Altrincham, get the same fixed quote.
Do I need a parking suspension or dispensation for a removals van in Manchester?
Not always. Manchester City Council allows loading on some yellow lines where the traffic order permits, but not during a loading restriction or where signs say no stopping. If loading is likely to take more than an hour, the council advises a dispensation to park on yellow lines, and a pay-and-display bay can be suspended for a domestic removal; both need at least five working days' notice and have a daily fee. When you book, say where the van can stop and who is arranging any permission.
Can you move a city-centre flat with a lift booking or concierge?
Yes. Give the floor at each address, whether the lift will take your sofa and wardrobe, and any move window the concierge or managing agent has set. That time is built into your fixed price, and the team works to the slot your building has given you.
Do you offer movers and packers in Manchester?
Yes, on request. Packing is quoted separately from the move: tell us which rooms need packing and whether you need materials, and we review the scope and a suitable team before offering a fixed price for it. You can also book the removal on its own and pack yourself.
What parking and access details do I need to provide?
Tell us about pickup and delivery: choose where the van can park lawfully, then give the carry distance, floor, lift, stairs and any awkward access. A private driveway or unrestricted street selection is enough. For permit-controlled, paid or loading-bay parking, also give who is arranging it, whether it is confirmed, its operating window and the exact lawful position. Unknown access, unsupported restrictions or a carry outside the online pricing limits needs a tailored review before we offer a fixed price. Do not enter gate codes, passwords or access credentials in the booking.
What happens if parking or access is different on moving day?
If there is no lawful parking, furniture does not fit, access is unsafe, unplanned dismantling is needed or delivery cannot be completed, the operator pauses the affected work and sends Movesmith a structured report with evidence. The operator cannot invent a charge or take cash at the door. Movesmith reviews the facts and, if the job needs to change, sends you a fixed proposal. Extra work or payment happens only after you expressly approve it; if you reject it, there is no variation charge and Ops arranges the safe next step, rebooking or a fresh quote.
