Single item questions
Do you collect Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree or eBay purchases?
Yes — single item collections from any pickup address in London or the South East are exactly what this service is built for. Tell us where to pick up, where to drop off, and what the item is; we'll show you the fixed price before you book.
Can you move a sofa?
Yes — 2-seater, 3-seater, corner and sofa beds are all in the catalog. Most sofa moves start from £85–£120 depending on size, with 2 movers recommended for 3-seater and larger.
Can you move a fridge or washing machine?
Yes — standard washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers and fridge/freezers start from £90–£95. American fridge freezers start from £130 due to size and weight.
Do appliances need to be disconnected?
Yes. Appliances must be disconnected, emptied and ready to move before the operator arrives. Installation or plumbing isn't included unless agreed separately.
Do I need to help lift?
No — but you can choose. The default is 1 mover for lighter items; we recommend 2 movers for sofas, appliances, wardrobes, stairs without a lift, or anything you can't help carry. The 2-mover upgrade is shown as a clear extra in the quote.
Are stairs included?
Ground floor and 1st floor with a lift are included in the base price. Stairs without a lift add a small surcharge per flight, shown clearly on the quote before booking. 4+ flights with no lift routes to a custom quote so we can match the right crew.
Is parking included?
If the van can park outside or within 10 metres of the door, parking is included. Longer carry distances (10–25m, 25–50m) add a small carry surcharge shown on the quote. 50m+ routes to a custom quote.
Is Congestion Charge or Dartford Crossing included?
If your route triggers either, they're shown as separate pass-through line items on the quote — Movesmith takes 0% commission on regulatory charges. You see them before you book; nothing's added on the day.
Can I book same-day?
Often yes, subject to operator availability in your area. Same-day bookings add a small premium shown on the quote. For tight timelines, calling 020 3143 1719 is the fastest path.
Is the item insured?
Every operator on the network must hold valid Goods in Transit and Public Liability insurance before taking jobs. Cover details are shown clearly before you book. See Movesmith Cover for the full breakdown.
Why not just book a cheap hourly man and van?
You can — but the cheaper end of the hourly market typically involves hidden minimums, unclear insurance, no fixed-price commitment before the move, and parking/congestion/access surcharges added on the day. Movesmith is the clearer, safer fixed-price option: you see the full price before booking, the operator is verified and insured, and nothing's added on the day unless you change the booking.
If you only want the cheapest possible quote and trust isn't a priority, the hourly route may suit you better. Movesmith is for people who want a clear price they can plan around.
